I’m Daniel Roberts, Writer and Creative Director at Means Magazine, which is a place to learn about the people who are the best in your field and the tools, objects, and mementos that help them do their best work. I have no great achievements other than being sort of endlessly curious and also foolish enough to chase my curiosity. I’ve been a pro-bono criminal defense lawyer for juveniles, a tech startup founder, a brand adviser, and a writer.

Starting Point:

I wanted to be an astronaut, but my mom said it was too dangerous for a nice Jewish boy. That’s a direct quote. So I ended up exploring intelligent life here on Earth.

Current Role:

Interviewing people, starting with myself, and trying to capture them in a way that helps others get inspired and get closer to their own goals.

Pivotal Moments:

Realizing the power of saying “I don’t know” while still being able to take action. You can’t steer a ship that isn’t already moving in some direction.
